||She began athletics as a cross-country runner at age 11. She took up race walking at age 18, in 2002.
|Why this sport?
||At age 17 she realised she had to specialise in a specific athletics event. She chose race walking on the advice of John Paddick, a British Olympic race walker, who encouraged her to try the discipline.

||BREAK FROM COMPETITION
She lost her national lottery funding after the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and had to find part-time work to make ends meet. She stopped competing entirely in order to finish her university degree, but returned to competitive action in 2014 with the help of sponsorship from a local IT solutions business. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London she was disqualified from the 20km race walk due to movement violations. "Unfortunately I got disqualified.
