After the disappointment of missing out on Pakistan's squad for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, he was selected for the 2002 Champions Trophy in Cologne, Germany, where he produced two goals in two minutes to lead Pakistan to a 4-3 bronze medal play-off victory over India. His high quality goals lifted him from a relatively unknown youngster to one of the better known names in Pakistan sport. "I never imagined that I would be able to make such an impact," he said.
