After she made the development squad at the age of 16, she was told by an unnamed coach that she would never make it because of her bad technique and bad footwork, and because she was too old. She stopped playing the sport competitively and "just got on with her life." At the age of 21, she had what she calls a "stuff this" moment and decided to give badminton another crack.
