When and where did you begin this sport? He had his first bout was when he was 11 years old in the LV Jayaweera Novices School Championship in 1991.
Why this sport? He was spotted by Dian Gomes, former President of Sri Lankan boxing, who identified him as a potential champion and recruited him to Slimline Boxing Club.

FANCY BEGINNINGS

REBORN CHAMPION
He was dropped from the Sri Lankan squad for the South Asian Games in 2010 after his strategy of reducing weight to compete under the 51kg category backfired as he lost to P.D.Suresh in the local selection trial. However, after contemplating retirement, he came back into the squad to win a silver medal at the Commonwealth Boxing Championships, the best achievement by a Sri Lankan at this event.
