His father Abdul Ghafoor represented Pakistan in weightlifting, winning a silver medal in the 52kg category at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. His sister Saniha Ghafoor competed at the 2016 South Asian Games in India, while his uncle Mohammad Manzoor competed in weightlifting at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
