Shirur was overlooked for the 37-member shooting squad for the Commonwealth Championships in February 2010. Despite being the world record holder in the 10m air rifle, the National Rifle Association of India did not include her in the team due to her preliminary and final round scores which saw her fourth overall on the domestic circuit. This was not enough to make it into the team. (, 16 Jan 2010)

She owns her own shooting range, because she lives 50 km away from Mumbai's only official range. (, 17 Oct 2006)
