Sport Specific Information
Why this sport? At swimming training one day he saw the divers up the other end of the pool and thought it looked more interesting than his swimming lesson. He convinced his father to let him have a go and he went for a training session at the Waltham Forest Diving Club. It was there that coach Lindsey Fraser spotted his talent and took him under her wing.

Sporting philosophy / motto "When I'm in the pool I do my absolute best, but when I walk out of the door, I try to forget about diving. There are other things in my life. If I get too obsessive, I get bored and that's when I don't want to dive." (sport.uk.msn.com, 15 Apr 2011)
Other information RETIREMENT
He retired from competitive diving in July 2014. "My thanks have to go to British Swimming for looking after me so well over the years and to my coach and family for everything they've done to support me throughout my career." (petewaterfield.com, 01 Jul 2014)

TALL TERROR
He has a fear of heights despite the fact that he performs off the 15m board sometimes. "I have this real fear that if something goes wrong I could end up hospitalised. I say a little prayer to myself." (The People, 20 May 2013)

MILESTONE
The silver medal he and Leon Taylor won in the 10m synchronised platform event at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens equalled Great Britain's best ever Olympic diving result, matching the silver medal Eileen Armstrong won in the platform event at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. It was also Great Britain's first Olympic diving medal in 44 years, since Brian Phelps [platform] and Elizabeth Ferris [springboard] both earned bronze medals at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.
