Her gold medal in the 400m at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England, was the country's first gold medal by a woman in Games history. It was only the country's third gold medal ever after Philip Aaron Edwards won the 880 yards gold in London, England in 1934 and lighweltertweight boxer Winfield Braithwaithe in Edmonton, Canada in 1978.
