TEAM CAMARADERIE "We're lucky in this [national] team that most people get along really well, and you do form some very close friendships. That's something I really value. When I was younger I did a bit of athletics, but I'm glad I chose netball because I love being part of a team. I get to share my successes and disappointments with my team-mates and it's great fun training together. Some of my team-mates are among my best friends." (BBC, 19 Jan 2006)
COMMONWEALTH GAMES CAPTAIN She has been awarded the captaincy of the Australian Netball Team for the Commonwealth Games after regular captain Liz Ellis was ruled out of the games. Ellis injured her knee and required reconstructive surgery. Australian team coach Norma Plummer said of McMahon: "Sharelle is a sensational player and she's the sort of player that leads by example. She works her heart out on a court and that's what you want from a leader. (ABC, 14 Dec 2005) |
