DOUBLES V MIXED He prefers playing doubles badminton and has linked up with fellow Indian player Jwala Gutta to form a strong partnership. "We don't have any gameplan as such, we just discuss some general points. Like to be careful about the high serve and so on. Mixed and doubles are entirely different. I'm only just beginning to understand that. In mixed, we play a bit more crafty game, you ‘keep' more, close to the net. In doubles, it's more about hitting. The main thing in mixed doubles is, after the smash, you've got to drive hard at the woman and then catch the next shuttle. The first smash can be to the man or woman, but the drive is hard for the woman to return." (sportskeeda.com, 23 Feb 2010; indianetzone.com, 12 Apr 2010)
CHINA TOUGHEST OPPONENTS On Chinese doubles partners he says: "The Chinese are the best in the business. They are very good. I think we need to train a little harder to beat them. We need to play consistent badminton and should focus more on defence and play a fast attacking game. We have to match them in speed, endurance and power. We are as good as the Indonesians and the Europeans." (expressbuzz.com, 02 Oct 2011)
OCCUPATION He is a human resources manager for an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation [ONGC] in Chennai, India. (indianetzone.com, 01 Jan 2010) |
