FROM GEORGIA TO CANADA After sustaining a neck injury in 2003, his weightlifting career with the Georgian national team came to an end. As severance, the Georgian Weightlifting Federation [GEOWF] offered him a one-way ticket to Canada. After moving to Montreal in Quebec, he continued training three days a week while holding down a number of different jobs, which included working as a removals man. He gained Canadian citizenship in 2008. "Moving to Montreal was an easy decision as there was already a big Georgian presence in the city." (canoe.ca, 15 Jul 2015; olympic.ca, 16 Nov 2014) |
