TOUGH TIMES At the beginning of his career he was finding it difficult to earn a living and train at the same time. When he made his Great Britain senior debut at the 2003 European Cup in Leipzig, Germany, he ran in bargain-buy spikes. He was without a regular job, on housing benefit and needed to fund his training. He worked as a taxi driver and later worked twice a week at a warehouse on 15-hours shifts for £60 a day to maintain training. (telegraph.co.uk, 31 Jul 2008)
LOTTERY FUNDING His lottery funding was withdrawn in 2008 after a season plagued by injuries but he regained the grant in late 2009. (andyturner110h.co.uk 04 Sept 2011) |
