Sport Specific Information
Why this sport? "I started lifting totally by pure coincidence. I was bored at school during lunch time and one of my friends at the time dragged me in the lifting room and said it would be fun. Her friend actually had a crush on a guy there, but we still attempted to lift weight - we had to pretend we were not there for the guy in question. It was fun and I came back everyday of the rest of the week. The coach there noticed me and started to give me more attention. I started to train for real. I was not just hanging out with my new friends I had made there. There was something attracting for me in weightlifting."
When and where did you begin this sport? She took up the sport in 2000 while at school.

Other information LONG BREAK
After competing at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing she had hoped to compete at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, but a series of injuries from 2012 to 2014 ended her dreams of returning to the Olympic Games. She took an extended break from the sport, and admits that she struggled with depression and difficulties maintaining her weight during this time. She got into coaching, where she discovered a new passion. "With coaching, I made peace with the fact that I was no longer an athlete. Everything I learnt over the years would not be in vain, my expertise could serve to help others and make them happy." She eventually decided to return to competition in 2018, with the aim of competing at the world championships. (mi.lapresse.ca, 18 Mar 2018; Facebook page, 02 Oct 2018)
