When and where did you begin this sport? He began riding BMX at an early age, racing at the National Sports Centre in Douglas, Isle of Man. "I was always riding a bike, getting dropped in little races. My mum would laugh at me, and I said it was because all my mates had mountain bikes, so I asked for a mountain bike for my 13th birthday. The very next day I went out and beat everyone."

He returned to track cycling in late 2015, having stated his desire to win a medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He was selected to represent Great Britain in the final round of the World Cup in Hong Kong, China, which was his first major international track event since 2009. MILESTONES
His four stage victories at the 2016 Tour de France took him to a total of 30 stage wins, putting him second on the all-time list behind Belgian rider Eddy Merckx. In 2011 he became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France's points competition, and at the 2013 Giro d'Italia he became the fifth rider in history to have won the competition in all three Grand Tours - he had claimed the points jersey at the Vuelta a Espana in 2010, where he had also become the second British rider to have won a stage in all three Grand Tours. His victory in the road race at the 2011 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, made him the first British road race world champion for 46 years, and only the second in history.
