TEMPERAMENTAL He is sometimes known as 'the most dangerous man in archery' because of his temper. (The Telegraph, 12 Aug 2011)
FULLTIME In 2007 he decided to give up his day job as a carpenter and concentrate on archery full-time. "I was doing an eight-hour day at work, then going home, practising, and my body was tired," he said. "I had the opportunity through funding to go full-time and thought I just had to go for it - so I did." (BBC Sport, 21 Nov 2007)
FROM FIELD TO TARGET He switched from field archery [where archers shoot at targets at various distances, often over rough terrain and woodland] to target archery because he felt the quality of competition was better and he wanted the incentive of taking part in the Olympic Games. "I was the world number one field archer, but felt I needed a new challenge," he said. (BBC Sport, 21 Nov 2007) |
