She has suffered from crippling pain in her lower legs. She first found the problem when she couldn't run because of the pain in her legs and she mistakenly self-diagnosed the problem as a severe case of shin splints. When she returned to Sydney, doctors told her it should have been impossible for her to walk because she had compartment syndrome, which occurs when the muscles grow too big for the space allocated to them in the body, a condition that can led to amputation.
