| Other information | ON AND OFF CAREER He quit swimming at age 16, but returned to the sport in a journey that saw him relocate from South Australia to Queensland several times. He took time away from the sport again in 2007 and left the Gold Coast to contemplate "settling down and being a normal guy". But he returned to the pool 10 months later, this time under coach Peter Bishop in his hometown of Adelaide, thanks to encouragement and motivation from his mother. After returning from the 2008 Olympic Games he struggled with weight issues and motivation and again considered quitting the sport.
