'HIT-AND-RUN' INCIDENT In late September 2011 he alleged he was the victim of a deliberate 'hit-and-run' attack while on his way to training in Brisbane, Australia. His injuries included a double break in his right elbow. "I believe it was done on purpose," he said, blaming it on "a bunch of young guys hooning around". Two days after the incident he broke down at a press conference and revealed he had lied to police and the public about the accident, and had simply fallen off his skateboard. "I was embarrassed. I didn't know what to do, I panicked, I freaked, basically to know that I've just fallen off a skateboard, something that a 10-year-old can ride, I was embarrassed something stupid." (abc.net.au, 29 Sep 2011; smh.com.au, 01 Oct 2011)
GOING HOME STRAIGHT AFTER OLYMPIC EVENTS He and teammate Nick D'Arcy were reprimanded and later apologised after photos of the two smiling and holding guns in a US gun shop were posted on Facebook. The AOC have ordered the two to return to Australia immediately after their events have finished in London. (abc.net.au, theaustralian.com.au, theage.com.au 16 July 2012)
