A SCHOLAR & SPORTSWOMAN One of the issues that she believes affects young athletes in Trinidad & Tobago is the lack of support that young sportspeople have in trying to pursue tertiary education while competing professionally and/or internationally. She says "there are those among us who have been through the system and made it through successfully. However, a large number of us are forced to pick between the two and in effect, the country loses either an academic scholar or a great sportsman." She advocates that with sufficient support there is no reason why sportspeople in Trinidad & Tobago should not be able to pursue both elite sport and tertiary education.
