He required surgery to insert a wire in his finger, but recovered in time to be named in New Zealand's squad for a three-match series against Japan in March 2014. He was called in as a short-notice replacement to play for the Delhi Waveriders in the inaugural edition of the professional Hockey India League [HIL] in 2013. "I got pulled in about halfway through because some Pakistan players were sent home. Some games there would be a full house at the smaller hockey stadiums, and I guess in your hockey career you don't get that very often. It was pretty cool and the best thing about it was the Indian fans, who were loud and cheered hard." He also played for the Waveriders in the 2015 edition of the HIL.
