| Other information | ALMOST QUITTING THE SPORT At the end of 2013 she came close to quitting competitive athletics. She had become disheartened by not reaching the hammer throw final at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russian Federation, and her parents had both been suffering from ill health. Canadian hammer thrower Jennifer Joyce helped persuade her to continue. "I considered stopping. I didn't know if I had enough strength to keep going. I'm an only child, so I wanted to be there for my parents. The question I faced was, 'do I live my life too?'. I was packing my car to go back home to Ontario [from her training base in Kamloops, BC, Canada] when Jennifer said returning to Ontario would probably be the worst thing I could do. She was definitely the one who changed my decision. You gotta love teammates." "At my first practice I was given a sobriety test from my throws coach at the time, to see if I could handle twirling with an inanimate object and knowing where I was in space to let it go out of the cage. I was instructed to spin around really fast and then walk a straight line. I said, 'I was a figure skater, I got this'."
