| Why this sport? | "I was a 100m and 200m sprinter in high school, even winning a gold medal on the sprint medley team with the championship record. I gained some pounds that year and couldn't get it off. I was going to quit track and then I was called for field. My best friend [Jamaican decathlete] Maurice Smith forced me into throwing. I did not want to do it. He tried over and over, but he told me that girls like strong men who can throw, and that's what got my attention to give it a try. I became good at it immediately." |
