INSPIRATION He was motivated and inspired by Swiss rider Thomas Frischknecht who had a long professional career, so he decided to compete in mountain bike, ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "He is still very strong and a great mountain bike cyclist. Because I am older, I see I can have a future in the sport like Thomas. I rode his old World Cup bike at the Cape Epic in 2012." (cyclingnews.com, 02 Sep 2015)
TRAGEDY His father was killed during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. When the attackers arrived, he was out collecting water and he managed to hide in a bush to survive. "I saw them kill with long knives and clubs. I hid in the bush. In the evening I returned to the house, but it was empty. Some family friends gave me food and I stayed in the bush because I was afraid they were killing people. Five or six days later, the army came and the killings stopped. I found my family who had taken refuge with friends.'' (rtl.be, 27 Apr 2012)
HOUSE He built his own house with the money he earned riding for Team Rwanda. (teamrwandacycling.org, 28 Nov 2013) |
