Sporting philosophy / motto "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger." [Friedrich Nietzsche] (Facebook profile, 07 Sep 2010)
Other information RETIREMENT
In April 2020 he announced his retirement from the sport after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. "My wife and I have been working on what is next for us and we are excited for the next adventure and tackling it together. I wanted to commit everything I had into one last Olympic campaign. To now face a further year on top of that, and with no certainty even then, is a step too far for me. If I can't give my heart and soul to this, to continue to improve and get faster, then anything less would be letting myself down and above all else, letting my teammates down." (stuff.co.nz, 24 Apr 2020)

OCCUPATION
He owns the Dawkins Performance coaching business. "A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to start giving a bit back, rather than just being an athlete, give back to the next generation or anyone wanting to go down a path of trying to become a sprinter. It's great. I like the development side of it, I like seeing the athletes progressing, I like coming up with new ways of training with them and seeing what suits different types of individuals. Everyone can do squats and starts and things like that, but it's getting the combination right for each individual to get the best out of them." (stuff.co.nz, 08 Apr 2020)
