2013 BOSTON MARATHON He was in his hotel room approximately 200 metres away from the site of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing when the explosions happened. He was unharmed. (news.com.au, 16 Apr 2013)
CHANGING DISTANCES He did not initially aspire to be an elite distance runner. "I never had an interest in running a marathon. I tried to run the 3000m steeplechase at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, but wasn't fast enough to be selected. I missed selection again trying for the steeplechase at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, so it was only then that I decided to move up in distance. It took my coach Ken Green two to three years to convince me to run a marathon but all along he was training me to do it." (dailytelegraph.com.au, 10 Feb 2010) |
