SANCTION In July 2011 she and several other Indian female athletes were initially given a one-year ban by Indian sporting authorities after testing positive for a banned substance. All of the athletes protested their innocence and blamed the adverse results on contaminated food supplements. The International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] appealed against their sentence, which it considered too lenient, and as a result they were given a two-year ban. Her suspension ended in July 2013. (thehindu.com, 18 Jul 2012, thehindu.com, 16 Jul 2014) |
