He is one of five siblings to have competed in weightlifting at international level. His brother Niusila and his sister Ele both won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, while his other siblings Tovia and Mary were selected to represent Samoa at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. His nephew Don Opeloge has also represented Samoa in the sport, winning silver in the 85kg category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia.
