He is the heir to the Baronetcy of Clarke of Dunham Lodge, Norfolk, England, a title created in 1831 by King William IV for Charles Mansfield Clarke's services to womankind and for his role as Royal Physician to Queen Adelaide. (clsclarke.com, 26 Jun 2014; dailymail.co.uk, 24 Jul 2013)

OLD ETONIAN
He is a former pupil of the renowned English independent boarding school, Eton College, located in Berkshire near Windsor. "I am pleased I went to Eton. It is a wonderful school, producing some people who are at an outstanding level academically, and highly motivated in other walks of life. At Eton there are no prizes for coming second, literally you do not get a silver medal in athletics. It makes you work hard." However, he also believes he may have got into athletics earlier if he had not attended the boarding school. “Eton is so rigorous on its academic courses that they make you focus entirely on that. You have your school sports, but that's only within certain hours. I only started training when I was almost 19 — if I'd gone to a state school a coach probably would have picked me up younger. I always regret it." (110hurdles.blogspot.co.uk, 24 Jul 2013; independent.co.uk, 07 Aug 2012)

NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE
At age 15 he was involved in a mountaineering accident that killed one of the members of his group. “When I was 15, I was climbing with a guide up the back side of the Grand Combin, near Verbier in Switzerland. There was a group of six Germans, and one in the middle slipped off the cliff. Because I was with the only guide, he had to organise the mountain rescue because there were 70mph winds and the helicopters couldn't get in. Traumatically, I was taken down to this group of Germans in their thirties crying their eyes out. Aged 15, I'm sitting there going, 'My God'. The guide came back and I was wondering if this was a film or reality." (telegraph.co.uk, 05 Mar 2015)
