SANCTION In October 2014 the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport [CCES] announced that he had received a two-year ban, ending 08 July 2016, after a urine sample revealed the presence of a banned anabolic agent, SARM S-22. He did not contest the violation but appealed the length of the ban, claiming the substance entered his system unintentionally via an injection for knee pain given by his family physician. The CCES rejected this explanation, but stated in its ruling that it believed the sincerity of the athlete's claims. However, the CCES said this did not discharge him from the burden of establishing the absence of significant fault or negligence, and the two-year ban was upheld. He said that he would concentrate on his career as a firefighter during his time away from the sport. (crdsc-sdrcc.ca, 29 Sep 2014; lawinsport.com, 21 Oct 2014) |
